How to Make Your Own Iris Folding Patterns using a Template
Click on the templates above to print them.
Unlike the other patterns available on this site which are copyright protected, the templates above have been donated to the public domain. This means that you can use the triangle and square templates however you would like.
It's easy to use these templates to make your own iris folding patterns. They can be used to make patterns for cards with pre-cut apertures or apertures made with a die-cut machine. Or, you can draw your own outline shape.
Just hold the opening for your design over the template, centering the iris then turning it until you find a position that looks good. The photo below demonstrates how this can be done.

Now tape it down just like you would any other iris folding pattern(so you are looking at the back of your card stock) and start folding. Start with the smallest visible numbered lines. In the photo above notice that you can't see the numbers for the outer most lines, just peek underneath and you'll see that they are 10,12, and 14. Start with #10 and work your way through #27. The colored dots serve as the pattern guide for these templates.
When choosing whether to use the square or the triangle shape, look at the basic shape of the design you will be making. The photo shows an outline for the body of a strawberry. Notice that it's shaped more like a triangle than it is shaped like a square so we chose to use the triangle template.
Have fun using these templates to make your own iris folding patterns!
