" Memories of Summer" Step-by-Step Instructions
| Go Back to Instructions Page 1 |

We started with a 16" X 20" piece of poster board(cut from a regular sized piece of poster board) and decided to use paper ribbon for our border. We first measured the width of the ribbon then we drew the line where the ribbon would later be glued in place:
drawing the border

Next, we made cut-outs of the shapes we wanted to use(because most of the patterns were made later) and sketched on our back drop where we wanted the land, water, and sky to be. We used the shape cut-outs to help decide where we wanted to place everything.

We also lightly sketched where we wanted to place each of the objects, but this was not neccessary since the patterns actually get traced on the back of your poster board:

Next, you will want your sketches of the land, sea, sky and border both on the front of the design(as a guideline for making the background) and on the back of your design(as a guideline for doing the iris folding). If you have a tracing table, that would work great for this. Otherwise, hold the poster board up to a window in a sunny room to trace a mirror image on the back of the poster board.

This also works as a tracing table(a lamp under a glass table):
